This apparatus uses the same principles as modern telecoms engineers when tracing
faults in telephone lines. A 50ns electric pulse is sent along a cable and the time taken for it
to return is measured using an oscilloscope. The time indicates how far it has travelled and
identifies where a break in the cable might be. The system requires a 20MHz oscilloscope or PC
oscilloscope and a 100m drum of cable.
